Usercase: New sandblasting design

In December 2020, we tested a new ergonomic sandblaster design for the company Storm Design Studio.

Test procedure

We tested two different sandblasters; traditional sandblaster vs Storm sandblaster. For each measurement, the person tested 4 different grip techniques on the sandblaster during 3 different sandblasting heights. Each measurement took about 30 minutes. All the while, our sensor equipment was collecting motion data.

Risk report

After the measurement, movement data was transferred to our platform ERGOLAB, which generated a risk report with a single click. The risk report contains precise information about where the body is loaded and for how long. We divide, among other things, the ergonomic parameters into body position, external load and high-risk activity analysis.

Concrete numbers

Storm Design Studio requested specific figures on how much better their new sandblaster design might be, compared to the traditional sandblaster. We can deliver this with ERGOLAB. Our overall risk score showed that Storm sandblasting entails a total reduced risk of 14% compared to traditional sandblasting, and that the total risk was in the low-risk zone. Thereby we could also give the Storm sandblaster our “Recommended by ERGOLAB” brand.
